good evening readers,
on today's topic - giving vs receiving advice - i feel like there's such a big gap between the two, and being able to do both is very important for everyone's wellbeing.
usually, i am the one who turns to my friends and anyone else when i need help/advice because i know they can help me. However today, my best friend expressed that she was struggling with some events that had been happening to her. I am always here to listen to her but the part where I am stuck one is giving her advice on how to move on or deal with certain things. I answer by reassuring her and making sure she knows that none of what's happening is her fault, and that sometimes stupid things happen and we can never know why. But from there, how do i give her the right advice, the right sentences, the right help to be sure that she'll end up okay ?
i've spent the entire afternoon, and actually more like since january, trying to figure out how to give the right advice and it's always such a struggle - sometimes saying everything will be okay and to move on isn't the right thing because that's never actually true, it's so much more complicated than that.
Moving on to receiving advice, for that you need to be able to come out of your shell and fully confide in the people you trust, because the major step is to ask. I've become pretty good at this now, because i've been dealing with mental health problems for 7 years now and i have my people i trust.
Applying the advice is another story though.
And that's why i'm so determined to completely learn how to give good advice, not because i want to get all the answers, but simply because i want the people i care about to feel understood and supported, knowing they're not alone in all of what they're going through supported, and maybe just a little less alone.
anyways, this is my dilemma of the day, if anyone is good at giving advice, drop a comment and let me know
i'm off to watching Desperate housewives now, toodles xxx
People tell me they like my advice because I give my honest opinion and may even put comfort second BUT that approach isn't for everyone. It's sweet that you care so much about giving good advice though.
